1953 Packard Clipper
Right Hand Drive;
5.4-litre straight-eight; rocking and rolling: lots of car for little outlay;
quality American cruiser
It is interesting and nice to find a big
Yank with the steering on the correct side. This 1953 Clipper comes with little
history but its V5C suggests it was first registered in the UK in April
1953.
They were produced in CKD form for the Australian market which may
also offer a clue, but whatever its early history, the steering
remains on the correct side which is good news.
The Clipper was launched
as the entry level Packard, but that's a bit like saying a basic Rolls-Royce, so
the quality is there, as is the unburstable flat-head straight-eight 5.4-litre
engine mated to the auto box.
The paintwork on this one isn't going to
win prizes, but neither is it so bad either and the car sits well and has
avoided the lowering brigade which leaves your options open.
It has been
mildly customised with vinyl graphics on the hood and top (bonnet and roof),
which could be easily removed if so desired. On offer at a very reasonable
reserve for a running and driving car of this quality and size - we think it
offers a lot of fun for very little outlay.
