1994 Toyota (Lexus) Soarer GT-T
(ZZ30)
Exceedingly rare and fast 2.5 litre twin sequential
turbo example in super order with digi-dash showing just 57,000Km; recent timing
belt and good history from two caring UK owners
Dating from July 1994 this really rather rare to see Lexus Soarer
Coupe comes to us in desirable 2.5 GT-T spec and is finished in Light
Silver/Blue (1AO) and sits upon a set of polished lip 18” staggered fitment
alloy wheels with black spokes.
Under the
handsome bonnet we find Toyota’s legendary 1JZ-GTE six-cylinder engine in 2.5
litre capacity with twin turbos which work in parallel (unlike the sequential
turbos in the Supra or RX7) giving massive torque right from the onset of the
boost. Power was officially 280Bhp
and 363NM of torque in-line with Japanese manufacturer guidelines (the
Gentleman’s agreement) but in reality were much higher (usually c.320Bhp, as
with the Supras and Skylines all rated at 280 but in reality 326 for the Supra
for example).
Power is sent to the rear wheels
via four-speed automatic transmission with O/D and ‘Power’ modes, and as a
result performance is strong, with huge low down grunt and over-taking prowess
with a very JDM throaty exhaust note typical of the 1JZ and 2JZ engines. Here we also find fitment of MkIV Supra
downpipe and custom stainless exhaust system with 4.5” bore and single exit on
the passenger side but there are no mods to the engine and it has not been
remapped.
Inside of this GT-TL spec example we
find grey cloth seats with blue pinstripe with electric adjustment, wood trim,
digital climate control with air conditioning, traction control, wind
deflectors, electric windows, electric folding mirrors, after market Alpine head
unit with remote control, fitment of a boost gauge and a wonderful digital
dashboard, which considering the era/age of the car is fantastic. A
particularly ingenious feature are the articulated door hinges which move
the doors forward as they open to improve access in tight parking
spaces.
The car shows just 57,567Km which
equates to only 35,770 miles – the car having seen only three UK owners, the
first was the importer (a specialist, Aptas Auto Network Ltd) who sourced the
car to meet the specific requirements of the buyer, the 2nd owner who
loved the car for the next 14 years and then the third, a good friend of the
former owner who has also loved the car for the last 12 months forming part of
his JDM Collection, already knowing the car well.
The car was sourced as a low KM example of Auction grade 4 in Japan
(highly rated) with BIMTA certificate on file to confirm the KM at Import and
imported accordingly in September 2007 and MOT’d showing just 26,654Km (16,562
miles).
In addition to normal routine
maintenance using OE parts and recommended lubricants (Motul) the car was
treated to a reconditioned alternator, reconditioning of the viscous fan, dash
repaired with new capacitors and delete of the reverse bleeper. More recently, the car has been treated
to a full service including new plugs, timing belt renewal and brake fluid
change.
The history file includes a record of
the above works including a 33-page file produced by the long term owner for the
current owner detailing the car and works undertaken with narrative, detail,
photos of the car, photos of the repairs and also of the car in Japan on
purchase. The car is pictured here
wearing Supra alloy wheels which have since been removed.
The history file also includes the current V5C, old V5C, current
MOT valid until January 2023 recording just two minor advisories for front
number plate deterioration and service brake binding. In addition, we also find the Sigma
alarm/immob installation certificate and booklet, BIMTA certificate of
authenticity, Import and customs docs, DVLA registration docs, 13 old MOTs,
bills for parts (many from Toyota main dealers) and works undertaken. We also note inclusion of the original
owner’s pack in Japanese with service book and spare key blade. The car comes with 3 keys in addition
and 2 fobs.
Ready to be enjoyed, this is a rare
and very fast car that offers seating for four, sleek lines and great investment
potential given what it is, and what engine it has. Very interesting indeed.
Buyers
please note, the vendor has the original 16" alloy wheels with correct Griffin
badges available by separate negotiation post-sale.
