Description
Exceptionally well-preserved and original Camper that spent its
first 36 years in sunny Australia; current owner 5 years; ready for new
adventures
We have sold a
fair few VW Campers over the years but this one really stands out. A VW Heritage
Letter states that it was built in September 1972 while the original bookpack
shows that it was supplied new to a Mr F Brandt of Belmont North, New South
Wales, Australia, in May 1973.
The service
book shows that it was serviced no fewer than 28 times up to 1984 by which time
it had covered 97,021 miles – an average service interval of under 3,500 miles.
An Australian engineer’s report states that it was showing 74,864 miles in 2004.
The history trail then goes cold until May 2008 when the VW was first registered
in the UK, an old MOT from that year recording a mileage of 81,411.
What is most impressive though is the
condition of the Camper, given that it may have covered nearly 200,000 miles
(the odometer now shows 95,174 miles). It looks amazingly original inside,
outside and underneath, and is in such good condition that it must have been
extremely well looked-after throughout its life.
A good file of invoices show regular servicing and upkeep while in
the UK. These include: engine top end overhaul in 2009 along with a new exhaust,
sliding door seal, rocker cover gaskets and carburettor overhaul; new engine
gaskets and heat exchangers in 2010; new wheel bearings and major service in
2015; brake system overhaul and new front discs and pads in 2016; new plugs, HT
leads and electronic ignition unit in 2017; new set of Firestone tyres also in
2017. A Kenwood CD/radio has been fitted, as has a Sterling
alarm/immobiliser which functions as it should.
Our vendor, who is the third UK owner, acquired the Camper in 2018
and has covered around 6,000 miles in it since, reporting that it drives
beautifully and has always been kept garaged. Ten old MOTs show that it has
never had any advisories for corrosion since arriving here, and it certainly
looks remarkably sound and rust-free. Supplied with all its original handbooks
in the original VW wallet, it also has two sets of keys and a spare pair of VW
hub caps.
Fitted with what appears to be the
original pop-top and impressively well-equipped inside, this exceptionally
well-preserved Camper needs to be seen to be fully appreciated.
