Beautiful 20/25 that spent time in the US with one owner; original
Chauffer's notes; recent £3,000 service; most usable and appealing example
Dating from 1934 and originally supplied to a Mrs
Szlumper of Bickley, Kent, this beautiful Rolls-Royce 20/25 Limousine remained
in the UK until its second owner acquired the car, a hotelier who enjoyed the
car until 1968 when it travelled the country to arrive with a Mr Cartwright of
Keswick who was to keep it for a number of years until the car went to
Texas in 1987.
The history file reveals
that the car returned from the States to the UK in 1991 when it was
re-registered JSU 895 (original reg was AVW 425 which was fortunately re-issued
back to the car in 2010). An
ownership change in 2005 saw extensive work undertaken including a bare metal
repair and respray, an interior re-trim and then further works including a
re-wire by Milford Vintage Engineering.
To
help ensure the car remains usable, a rear trunk was fitted along with
indicators and wing mirrors.
Under the bonnet,
we find the powerful 3.7 litre inline six cylinder push-rod engine with seven
bearing crank driving the rear wheels via an open propshaft and four-speed
manual gearbox with synchromesh.
Inside, we
find the driver’s enclosure with wind-up partition window, rear seating for
three or five plus three (driver inc.) in the front meaning up to eight people
can be accommodated at speeds of up to 75mph.
The history file is considerable and dates back to the early days
and includes Chauffeurs notes from the mid 1950’s as well as the V5C, an old
style log book, Texas Certificate of Title, 18 old MOTs, starting
procedure, a stack of historic maintenance records including its aforementioned
restorative works and more recent works including a £3,000 service in July 2022
by AB Classics of Cambridge as well as copy original vehicle order form dated
1933, photographs and reams of other associated
documentation.
An impressive example that
starts well, runs beautifully and looks sensational. A most affordable and charming way into
a pre-war Rolls.
