Description
Just three owners from new, the current for 33 years; sympathetically
restored in 1991 and then very lightly used; for recommissioning following 22
years in storage
From September
1967 the Jaguar MkII range was replaced by the 240 and 340 models with slimmer
bumpers, chrome grilles in place of the front fog lights and Ambla,
rather than leather, interiors. Introduced to keep the range attractively
priced until the launch of the new XJ6 in September 1968, some 2,788 340s
were made during the period - the 240 carrying on as a budget model for some
time to come.
The good news was that thanks to a new straight-port
cylinder head and twin SU carbs, a 240 was noticeably quicker than a 2.4 and a
340 had at least the performance of the old 3.8.
First registered in October 1967, this 340 has had just three owners
from new, our vendor acquiring the car way back in 1991. When he first bought
the car, he sent it to classic Jaguar specialists Phoenix Restorations of
Eardisley to be smartened up.
This included
repairs to the bodywork, rechroming of the bumpers, brakes and suspension
rebuilt, new front fog lights, new tyres plus much else besides. The interior
was also spruced up with all the woodwork refurbished, new wool headlining, new
set of carpets and underfelts, new furflex and new door and windscreen rubbers.
It was also given a thorough service and tune-up, all this work being detailed
in many invoices on file.
Very lightly used over
the next 10 years, it was then put into dry storage in 2002 where it has
remained ever since. The car rolls freely and the engine still turns but it will
now require a degree of recommissioning before it can be put back into use.
As you can see in the photos, it looks generally
sound, smart and presentable with a nice interior and just a few paintwork
blemishes here and there. On offer here at a modest guide price, it shouldn’t
take too much effort to get it back on the road once more.
