With the vendor since 1994;

Manufactured
in 1964, this Bristol 408 is finished in white with a deep red leather interior
and is registered as a Historic Vehicle. Powered by its correct 5,130cc
Chrysler-derived V8 engine coupled to Bristol’s distinctive push-button
automatic gearbox, it remains a fine example of the marque’s understated
engineering and hand-built quality.
The current V5C records just two
former keepers since January 1989, with the vendor in ownership since 1994. The
mileage currently showing is 3,069, and good oil pressure is indicated. More
recently the engine was upgraded to upgraded
to 5211cc capacity the paperwork confirms this and we also have invoices
from
2019 detailing about £6900 of work including restoration of the Chrysler
Torqueflite auto gearbox and torque converter done in the USA.
The
408 represented Bristol’s move into more modern V8-powered motoring, combining
refined performance with the firm’s traditional craftsmanship. The model is now
appreciated for its rarity, elegant proportions and long-legged touring ability,
characteristics that this example continues to display.
The paperwork
includes the current V5C, owners handbook and a folder of invoices covering
maintenance and repair work from 1989 to the present day, suggesting consistent
and careful upkeep over more than three decades. Also included are nine old MOT
certificates, a copy of the handbook and workshop manual, and a selection of
invoices. The car has been starting and driving nicely on site for the
photographs and video.
A well-kept and long-owned example of the
increasingly rare Bristol 408, offered with a substantial history file and
presenting as a usable and characterful classic from one of Britain’s most
individual manufacturers.
