Brightwells to offer ‘Holy Grail’ of Whisky in their November online auction.

A bottle of the legendary Macallan 50 year old Anniversary Malt, described as ‘The Holy Grail for Whisky collectors’ will form the centrepiece of Brightwells’ 26th November Auction.

This bottle is one of only 500 produced and is widely considered to be one of the finest Macallans ever made. While it bears an age statement of 50 years, this whisky was distilled in 1928 and bottled in 1983, meaning it is a minimum of 54 or 55 years old. The whisky is presented in its original wooden case with a signed letter from Alan Shiach, then chairman of The Macallan-Glenlivet.

The vendor is an London gentleman who was given the bottle in 1983 on the occasion of his 50th birthday. Each year he resolved to open it but each year the price had increased so much he couldn’t bring himself to do so!

This iconic Macallan will be sold with an estimate of £60,000 - £100,000.

Brightwells Winter Online Auctions will take place on Thursdays 26th November and 3rd and 10th December. Bidding will open on the preceding Saturday and run for 5 days, closing from 6pm on three consecutive Thursdays. The sales feature fine French wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley; Vintage Ports and Champagnes and rare Cognacs as well as Malt Whisky.
