If you would like to bid in person in the Saleroom, you are required to register for a buyer’s number at our cash office to ensure confidentiality. If you would like to prefill your registration form please download commission form here.
If you are unable to attend the auction there are three alternative methods of bidding. You may bid on-line, leave a commission bid or bid live on the telephone or on-line bidding.
On-line Bidding (Currently only available for selected auctions)
To use and register for on-line bidding, please log in to the next sale homepage at www.brightwells.com and select the On-line Bidding icon. On-line bidding registration will be open from 10am on the Monday prior to the auction day. We will ask you for a deposit of £1,000 UK Sterling in order to register to bid on-line (refundable on the day after the auction if you do not purchase).
The sale will be live approximately 30 minutes before the auction. There will be audio, but we advise you to follow the speed of bids in the bidding box, rather than the auctioneer’s voice. Internet bids are accepted by the auctioneer (not the on-line bidding clerk), to avoid conflict with room, telephone or absentee bids. If your bid is not accepted and the bidding is still live, bid again. If you win a lot, an on-line bidding surcharge of 2% plus VAT will applied to the hammer price. The normal buyer’s premium will also still be charged to the hammer price.

Commission & Telephone
Please note that if you have not registered with us before and you would like to bid by either of these methods we will need to see some form of photo identification (this can be supplied by taking a digital photograph or scan of the ID and emailing it to us) and we will need to take the details of a debit card prior to registering you for the sale.
Please also note, bidders who have not bid with us in the past will need to register at least 24 hours before the sale. This will be strictly enforced.
By Commission: If you are unable to attend the sale, you may leave your bids on commission over the telephone on 01568 611122 or by completing a commission form. This is a maximum amount that you would be prepared to go up to and we will bid on your behalf.
If you would like to bid over the telephone with a member of our staff, a limited number of lines are available but must be booked at least 24 hours before the sale and you must be prepared to bid up to at least £200. To arrange telephone bidding please complete a commission form.
Buyer’s Premium 17.5%+ VAT (with a minimum of £10 per lot)
Methods of payment
Purchases will only be released when full payment (inclusive of all charges) has been made in cleared funds to Brightwells. We will accept payment in the following ways:
- Cash at any Auction to the maximum value of £2,500. Total cash payments to Brightwells Limited from any customer cannot exceed a Sterling equivalent of EUR9,999 in any single or series of related or linked transactions within a 90 day rolling period.
- Sterling cheque drawn on a UK branch of any bank or building society –unless previously agreed with us all cheques must be cleared before removal of purchased lots.

- Debit Cards drawn on a UK bank- no charge removal of purchased lots immediate.
- Credit Cards – please note we do not accept Credit Cards as a form of payment.
Condition Reports may be obtained on catalogued items by telephone or email up to 24 hours prior to the sale.
Photographs of items are constantly updated on our website therefore if there is one you would like and it has been omitted, please keep checking. Illustrations may be obtained by post at a cost of £2 per image or digital images may be emailed at no charge.
