One registered keeper from new; showing only 49,155
miles; hand-built 5.4-litre M113 V8 engine, producing some 342bhp; five-speed
automatic transmission, complete with Tiptronic functionality
Few
modern performance cars deliver quite the same blend of discreet looks and
devastating real-world pace as the Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG. Built during the
golden era before AMG became fully integrated into Mercedes-Benz, these
hand-finished V8-powered coupes have developed a devoted following thanks to
their understated styling, exceptional build quality and effortlessly muscular
performance.
First registered on 31st December 2000, this highly
impressive W208-series CLK55 AMG is made more remarkable by its provenance,
having had just one registered keeper from new and covered a mere 49,155
miles.
Power comes from AMG's legendary hand-built 5.4-litre M113 V8
engine, producing some 342bhp and a formidable 510Nm of torque. Coupled to the
robust five-speed automatic transmission, complete with Tiptronic functionality
and Sport/Winter modes.
Finished in Brilliant Silver and sitting on its
original staggered-fitment 17-inch AMG alloy wheels, the car perfectly captures
the understated appeal that has made these pre-merger AMG models so desirable.
Subtle body styling, twin polished AMG exhaust outlets and discreet badging hint
at the performance available without shouting about it. We are advised that a
new OEM Mercedes-Benz rear badge is due to be fitted imminently.
The
cabin is equally appealing, trimmed in distinctive two-tone Blue and Black
leather. Equipment levels are generous and include heated electric orthopaedic
memory seats, COMAND infotainment, parking sensors, electric folding mirrors,
electric windows, electric glass sunroof, climate control air conditioning,
Xenon headlamps, cruise control with speed limiter, onboard computer, adjustable
steering column, front and rear armrests, ski hatch and the wonderfully period
pop-out cup holder.
The accompanying history file contains the V5C
confirming the single keeper, together with the original book pack, locking
wheel nut and service book showing five service stamps, the most recent recorded
at 48,653 miles in February 2025. A selection of recent invoices details
recommissioning and maintenance work including servicing, replacement serpentine
belt and pulley, repairs to the sill and underside, replacement offside sill
section, wheel alignment and the application of Lanoguard underbody protection.
The current MOT remains valid until January 2027 and records no
advisories.
The vendor advises that the car spent much of the period
between 2014 and 2024 in storage before being carefully recommissioned and
returned to the road. Having started readily and performed during our time with
the car, it appears to drive well, feeling tight, responsive and every inch the
quality performance coupe it was when new.
Increasingly appreciated by
collectors, the W208 CLK55 AMG occupies a sweet spot between classic
Mercedes-Benz engineering and old-school AMG character. With one-owner
provenance, exceptionally low mileage and the magnificent naturally aspirated V8
under the bonnet, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the marque's most
appealing modern classics. Whether enjoyed as intended or preserved as values
continue to strengthen, examples with credentials such as these are becoming
increasingly difficult to find.
