A runaway success with over 76% clearance
Far from the Madding Crowd, at Brightwells permanent HQ in Leominster, 68 Classics went under the hammer on Thursday 28th May in some style.
Using the already proven Brightwells Live Online bidding platform, the Classic Car team put together their first online sale which proved a runaway success with over 76% clearance and some fine prices along the way.
Significant pre-sale interest proved that the Classic market is still buoyant in this Covid lockdown, with multiple lots selling to International buyers.
Top price of the day went to the F355 Ferrari. A lovely example in fine condition, it realised a commission inclusive £58,250. The other two Ferraris were also keenly bid, the 360 Manual selling for £50,000 and the 308 GTBi for £43,290.
As usual, Brightwells offered a raft of Land Rover product, including a very smart Series III which blitzed its estimate to sell for £7,840. A rare and beautifully original 1957 Diesel 109” looked good value at £9,520 while no fewer than six Range Rover projects – all needing complete restoration made between £2,400 and £4,700 depending on condition and completeness.
The elegant Pagoda 250SL Mercedes-Benz, part restored and supplied with lots of new parts breached its £20,000 - £25,000 estimate to make £28,560 and at the opposite end of the spectrum – a pretty 1932 MG F-Type Magna sold for a commission inclusive £21,500…even with its missing head and non-runner status.
The scruffy but running 1985 Porsche 911 looked value at £20,270 – a budget access to 911 ownership, its new owner now looking forward to some evenings in the workshop turning the solid basis back into the fine car it once was.
At Brightwells we like to offer a selection for all tastes. The MAN winch truck, direct from the Ministry of Defence flew beyond estimate to sell for £20,200 while the new owner of the beautifully patinated Armstrong Siddeley 20hp saloon drove out of the gates with a smile on his face – all for a commission inclusive £14,560…
With a significant number of registered bidders for the sale, an excellent clearance rate and a straightforward handling process, Brightwells have set July 2nd as the date for the next sale. All vehicles will be onsite at the time of sale and the catalogue goes live on the 19th June…smaller more regular online sales will be the M.O. for the time being at least.
