Desirable 'Silver Green Metallic; showing just 33,495 miles with only
four previous keepers; rare survivor in running and driving
condition
Introduced in 1975, the Vauxhall Chevette
was a compact rear-wheel-drive model offered in hatchback, saloon, estate and
van forms. Produced until 1984, it proved popular as a practical and affordable
family car, while its simple mechanical layout also made it a successful basis
for competition use, most notably through the sporting HSR. Today, the Chevette
is an increasingly uncommon reminder of the British motoring scene of the 1970s
and early 1980s.
Registered in 1983, this rather
characterful Chevette is finished in desirable ‘Silver Green Metallic’,
complemented by matching green upholstery, and has had just four previous
keepers including our vendor. The car is also displaying a very reasonable
33,495 miles, which is supported by its MOT history, although as ever,
interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the
mileage.
Presenting as a particularly honest
example, the desirable paintwork presents in average condition with the expected
patina and repairs of car this age. Nevertheless, this doesn’t detract from the
cars appearance and arguably gives it a smart and characterful look of its own.
The sporty wheels set off the car well and the original green upholstery and
headlining appear in particularly good order.
We
are told the car was treated to an overhaul of the ignition system, including
new spark plugs and HT leads, along with a radiator refurbishment, not too long
ago before being professionally stored over the last year or so.
Running and driving as expected on site and
accompanied by its original handbook, old MOTs and a handful of invoices, this
little Chevette presents as a charming classic runabout and a rarely seen
example of a once familiar British staple, presented in a particularly desirable
specification.
