Showing just 68,763 miles; extensive
restoration carried out to an exceptionally high standard; substantial
collection of invoices
Presented in blue with a contrasting white
roof, this Austin 8 CWT Van was first registered in June 1969 and has been with
the current vendor since 2017. Subject to a meticulous restoration, it
represents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptionally well-presented example
of this increasingly scarce British light commercial
vehicle.
The
Austin 8 CWT Van occupied a similar role in the marketplace to the hugely
popular Morris Minor Van, providing small businesses, tradesmen and local
retailers with a dependable and economical light commercial vehicle. Simple,
rugged and easy to maintain, these Austin vans became a familiar sight on
Britain's roads throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Today, surviving examples are
far less common than their Morris counterparts, making well-restored vehicles
such as this increasingly desirable among collectors of classic British
commercial vehicles.
The quality of the restoration is evident
throughout, with the history file including photographs showing the van as a
bare bodyshell during the rebuild, allowing prospective purchasers to fully
appreciate the standard of workmanship and attention to detail invested in the
project. Finished to an impressive standard both inside and out, it presents
exceptionally well and is a credit to its current owner.
Mechanically, the van benefits from
a remanufactured engine supplied by KAR Engine Services, a reconditioned
gearbox, an AccuSpark electronic ignition system and a Type 6 remote brake servo
kit. Showing just 68,763 miles, it passed an advisory-free MOT in July 2022 and
has covered only 407 miles since. Driven to the sale, it performed faultlessly
during our photography and video sessions, starting readily and running without
issue.
The
comprehensive history file includes the current V5C, three previous MOT
certificates, restoration photographs and an extensive collection of invoices
covering numerous replacement and refurbished components, from door seals and
lighting to carpets, door panels and steering components. Described by the
vendor as being as close to a new 57-year-old van as one could hope to find,
this Austin represents an outstanding example of a classic British light
commercial vehicle.
