An appealing example of the Triumph
Stag MkII, registration OEL 762P, with an interesting ownership history and the
benefit of a recent £6,000 recommissioning. First registered on 17 March 1976,
this 2,997cc V8 automatic has had four former keepers, including two within the
same family.
The accompanying history records
that the Stag was initially owned by Mr E. Smith for three years before passing
to Mrs Iris Toll for a further three years. It was then acquired by Major Love
on 6 October 1982, who enjoyed and maintained the car for the next decade.
Following the expiry of its last valid MOT, the Stag was put away in the garage
at his home, where it remained in dry storage for approximately 31 years. Major
Love transferred ownership to his daughter in 2023, with a letter on file
confirming the circumstances. Following his death in 2025, the family decided to
sell the car.
The Stag has since undergone an
extensive programme of recommissioning, with work detailed in the accompanying
history file. The fuel system was drained, the carburettors stripped and
overhauled, and new fuel hoses, filter and pump fitted. The water pump was
rebuilt, with a new viscous coupling and gaskets, while the engine oil and
filter were replaced. The automatic transmission and power steering fluids were
renewed, and electronic ignition, new spark plugs and leads were fitted before
the timing was reset.
Further work included
replacement stainless-steel and chrome bumpers with new galvanised brackets,
refurbished road wheels with four new tyres, a replacement battery and paintwork
attention to various scratched areas of the front wings, bonnet and roof. Much
of the replacement componentry was supplied by Rimmer Bros.
The car retains its original hardtop, while the soft top is described
as being in good condition. The speedometer currently shows 41,557 miles, which
the vendor confirms in writing to be correct.
Having been driven over 90 miles recently, the Stag has been
starting, driving and stopping as expected on site for photography and a short
video.
An attractive opportunity to acquire a
long-term family-owned Stag with a fascinating history, extensive recent
recommissioning and the benefit of its original hardtop.
