Showing just 32,146 kilometres; 3.0-litre
V6 engine; four-speed manual; manufactured in 1983; imported into the UK in
April 2023; Bakkie utilised Cortina bodywork
Finished in white with a beige interior, this
rare 1983 Ford Cortina 3000 Bakkie presents a unique opportunity to acquire a
highly unusual South African derivative of the ever-popular Cortina. Showing
just 32,146 kilometres and equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox, this
distinctive pick-up was manufactured in 1983, imported into the UK in April 2023
and is UK registered.
Developed specifically for the South African
market, the Cortina 3000 Bakkie combined the practicality of a pick-up with the
comfort and driving manners of Ford's hugely successful Cortina saloon. Closely
related to the Ford P100, the Bakkie utilised Cortina bodywork with a
purpose-built load bed and proved immensely popular with tradesmen, farmers and
small businesses. Today, surviving examples are seldom seen in the UK, making
this a particularly interesting proposition for Ford enthusiasts and collectors
alike.
Presented
in a simple and attractive factory-style colour scheme, this Bakkie retains the
honest character that made these vehicles such dependable workhorses. The
combination of the Cortina front end and pick-up body ensures it attracts
attention wherever it goes, while its South African heritage adds further
interest and rarity.
Power comes from Ford's renowned 3.0-litre V6
engine, producing the strong performance and relaxed cruising characteristics
for which these models are known. Paired with a manual gearbox, the vehicle has
been starting and running on site as expected for our photography and video
sessions.
Accompanying the vehicle is the current V5C
showing just two former keepers since UK registration. Rare, distinctive and
increasingly collectable, this Cortina 3000 Bakkie represents an opportunity to
acquire a fascinating Ford that is sure to stand out amongst more familiar
classics.
