Description
Originally a linemans van for the Post Office in Brecon; owned by
our vendor since 1977; taken part in many rallies and
shows
Originally supplied to the Post Office
and used as a linesman’s van in Brecon, this Albion LB41 is accompanied by its
original buff logbook recording its early history. It was sold to Mr V Jones of
Pontfaen in 1951 and subsequently to Mr T Williams of Brecon before being
purchased by the present vendor in 1977 as a derelict project. A photograph on
file shows the vehicle as found.
Restoration was
completed in 1979 and BXT 162 has remained with the same owner ever since. The
Albion subsequently took part in the London to Brighton Run in 1982, together
with road runs and rallies in Ireland in 2007 and the Isle of Man in 2010. We
have also located a period photograph of the truck taken in September 2014,
showing BXT 162 on the Heart of Wales event, confirming its continued use on the
rally scene.
Today the Albion presents
beautifully, finished in dark green with traditional signwriting for T.
Henderson, Steam Threshing Contractor, Whitney on Wye, Herefordshire. The
period-style dropside body, timber floor and detailed coachwork are all
particularly well executed.
The four-cylinder
engine and mechanical components are presented in good order and the vehicle is
running and driving. The chassis plate confirms Type LB41 and chassis
number14222C.
A lovely example of a preserved
pre-war commercial vehicle, with almost 50 years of continuous ownership, an
interesting working history and an impressive record of participation in rallies
and road runs.
