The 2011 December Stars of the Future Sale recorded increases in all sectors with solid trade throughout the two days. The sale which has always received strong support from British buyers was enhanced by international interest from Russia, Canada, USA, Germany and Switzerland.

Brightwells rounded off an excellent 2011 season with a very strong result at the final sale of the year on November 30th. A total of 67 cars were sold out of 90 offered to give a highly impressive clearance rate of over 74% – well above the current rate prevailing amongst most other auction houses. 580 Welsh cobs, Welsh ponies cob-type and Welsh partbreds of the 785 offered were sold at the Brightwells Autumn Cob Sale for a Sale total of £404,335. The individual day averages were Friday £588, Saturday £652 and Sunday £821. The overall £697 average was down from £740 last year. There was a welcome indication of fewer and better ponies being bred with the reduction from 480 last year to 318 ponies and cobs at Hay-on-Wye. Consequently last year’s average of £123 was increased to £136 with 16 sold for export, 10 to Germany, 5 to Holland and 1 to Spain. The Sale total was £38,545.

The 2011 Brightwells Fayre Oaks Sale bucked the trend of general decline in the horse and pony market. 394 Welsh mountain ponies, Welsh ponies section B and Welsh part-breds sold for a Sale total of £256,290 averaging £650.48. Compared with last year, the Saturday average was up to £571 from £481, the Saturday night “High Flyer Sale” average was £3,725 up from £3,644 but the Sunday average was; ... read more
At a time when other auction houses are struggling to sell even half of their entries, Brightwells bucked the trend at their September 21st Classic Car & Motorcycle auction by selling an impressive 73% of vehicles entered. On a bright and sunny autumn day, some 74 vehicles found new homes out of 102 offered to give a sale total of some £780,000.

A 1958 Jaguar XK150S 3.4 Roadster topped the results at Brightwells’ 13th July classic car sale in Leominster. Still looking very smart after a restoration in the early 1990s but fitted with a replacement 3.8-litre engine, the Jaguar made a within estimate £78,100 including premium.

Of the 203 Welsh ponies, cobs and Welsh Part Breds on the Brightwells Spring Sale held on the Royal Welsh Showground on Saturday 14th May, 149 were sold for a Sale Total of £98,820 representing an average gure of £663. Another capacity crowd flocked to Brightwells’ Leominster salerooms to see some 112 classic vehicles come under the auctioneer’s hammer on Wednesday 11th May. By the time the dust had settled on what was a warm but blustery afternoon, 81 vehicles had found new owners in a sale which grossed £912,000 and saw several record prices set.

Brightwells’ 2011 sales calendar got off to a good start on a sunny March 2nd afternoon with 53 classic cars finding new owners out of a total entry of 79 cars. “We had our usual huge crowd with over 1,500 people in attendance and we sold over 67% of cars entered so we are very pleased with the results,” said Brightwells classic car consultant, James Dennison.
