1982 Triumph TR7/8 Coupe

SOLD £20,272

Coming to us from a deceased estate this is a striking TR7/8 with racing provenance and is, we understand a turn-key competition car. It was supplied new in September 1982, was originally in red and the log book shows the car as being a 3.5 V8 before conversion to its present state. The car was purchased in October 1998 by our vendor’s late husband who competed with the car in national Sprint and Hill Climb championships (although the car had also competed successfully prior to his purchase by its former owner too). For example, in 2000 the car ran to pole position at the Dunkeswell Sprint, the Liverpool Motor Club sprint 1st place, Shelseley Walsh 2nd and 3rd in Class as well as 1st in class at Torbay Finlake hillclimb and the Boscombe sprint saw a 2nd in class too. Not a huge amount is known about the specification of the car, but a good look at the photos should give you a hint. A highly desirable and valuable J.E Developments (John Eales) engine is fitted, (confirmed by them) stamped #4501047 (next to the oil dip stick) equating to it being a 4.5 litre displacement, built in 2001 and build no.47. It was last serviced by Simpson Motorsport of Lydney who have also MOT'd the car for the past 2 years since when it has remained with them, unused. Unfortunately we don't know the current power, but being a John Eales unit, its bound to go like stink! We understand the transmission also hails from J.E Developments and is a rebuilt close ratio SD1 competition gearbox costing £1,000 back in 1999. The bonnet, boot and both front/rear bumpers are lightweight GRP purchased from S&S Conversions in Feb’99 and we believe the rear axle with disc brakes and 5-point linkage was supplied by Motorsport Direct of Lancs. Its evident the car has been purpose built with the battery relocated to the boot, isolators, fuel cell, big - deep - wide tyres, big AP brakes, firm suspension, quick release panels and racing seats with 4-point harnesses, roll cage and fire extinguisher. The car starts and runs, sounding very meaty. It presents well, in super order throughout for a race-car and is still road registered – handy for driving to and from an event should you so wish. The car is guided at a fraction of its build cost and with that John Eales engine, its sure to be a fast one with competitive edge. We hope to have further information and further documentation before the sale but presently the history file includes the V5C, a service invoice from Simson Motorsport for £1,300 and some notes on the car’s competition history. It comes with a valid MOT without advisories until March 2021 although there is, and has been no mileage shown since at least 2011.

The car/driver combination accumumlated a selection of trophies which the family wish to retain for sentimental reasons. For further information please contact Will Daniels – 07951 709919
