1983 Volkswagen Golf GTi MkI
AMENDMENT: Iconic hot-hatch in super order; rare
colour and interior trim option; considerable history file including 22
service stamps
AMENDMENT: Car was originally supplied new as a LHD
according to data sticker in the boot. Type 171 334 = LHD 1800
GTi
Supplied new by Autohaus Windels GmbH of Bremen in February 1983
to a Mr Williams of Liverpool, this GTi is finished in desirable and very period
Mars Red (LA3A) paint with contrasting Black with silver stripe (KM) interior.
The car features a metal sunroof, manual windows and has the radio and 3 central
gauge delete panels.
In what appears to be super order, the car comes
from enthusiast ownership and is a reluctant sale. KUR70Y was imported to the UK
in April 1985, remaining with its first owner until August 1989. The next owner
kept the car some 21 years, the next 5 years and then 4 years with 6 keepers in
total.
The history file for this hot little hatch includes the V5C, old
V5, original book pack and service book with data/options sticker and an
impressive 22 stamps inc. PDI in February 1983 by the supplying dealer, the
last, a timing belt service in April 2009 at 130,487 miles by DW Autos who
carried out all but 3 of the 22 services stamped.
In addition there is a
thick tome of invoices, at least 20+ old MOTs and current ticket running until
January 2021 with no advisories recorded. The MOT history shows the car has
covered little mileage certainly since 2015, just a few hundred miles and little
more than 4,000 since the last stamp in 2009 and currently shows 134,565
miles
Invoices on file show regular maintenance and parts purchase
including a new clutch cable, fuel level sender and reverse switch in August
2019, lube service with new rocker cover gasket at a cost of £421 in March 2019,
major service including timing belt, front crank pulley oil seal, brake hoses
and new rear exhaust section in 2015 at 131,432 miles costing £449, a spend of
£633 in August 018 at 131,735 miles for a new fuel pump and accumulator, new
gear selector linkage, wax-oil, repair to the boot floor and new spare tyre and
a pair of rear shockers and springs in November 2007 at 129,849 miles. Other
historic bills on file date back to at least 1990.
It’s unclear if the
car has been restored - given the history file it would suggest its simply been
very well cared for by its loving long term owners. It remains in super
condition throughout and is wonderfully period correct without enhancement and
modification that so many MkI GTi's have seen.
