1979 Austin Mini 1000
Bored out to 1100cc with wide arches, deep dish 4-spoke alloys, fruity exhaust, bespoke interior with bucket seats
Dating from April 1979 this Austin built Mini has evidently been restored, with a selection of undated photos on file showing various stages of its transformation from rotten black to the eye-catching blue machine we see here today.
The history file includes the V5C, current MOT running until September 2021 with just 1 minor advisory recorded for 'hazard warning lights flashing too fast', 4 old MOTs and a selection of invoices. A glance at the more recent MOT history shows the car has covered c.17,800 miles in the last 10 years with a period between 2015 and 2020 without MOT.
Other documents on file show the car featuring on a stand at the Malvern Mini Show in March 2009 in a similar state to the current bar body coloured wheel arch extensions (they are black now) and different wheels. A couple of plaques on file suggest attendence at the Mini in the Park event at Cornbury in 1998 an also in 1999 hosted by Mini Magazine.
The attractive alloy wheels presently fitted are receipted, purchased for £450, another invoice details purchase of a valve guide set in bronze alloy plus oil pressure release valve and spring kit in 2010 and master cylinder at the same time.
Another details purchase of a Kent fast road cam, twin-row lightened timing gear set and timing chain in 2009 at a cost of £255, a set of A-series pistons in 2009, silicone radiator hose set also in 2009 costing £75, oil cooler and stainless pipe set in 2008, all new gauges also in 2008, Clubman Classic Cobra seats in Jan 2008 at a cost of £253, 3-spoke 320mm steering wheel in Nov-2011, door skins and bottoms inner sections, poly bush set for the engine and 8.4" front discs in Oct-2007 for £289 and new a-posts, hinge panels and quick shift in 2007 plus Gmax Mini uprated front and rear shock absorbers with poly bush kit also in 2007.
Evidently considerable time, money and effort have gone into creating this cool little car that started on the button and ran well at the time of our photography. Under the bonnet it looks like further undocumented works have gone on, with the engine wearing MED Engineering branding. The vendor believes the engine capacity has been increased to 1100cc, but there is no documentary evidence to support this, although the car does certainly feel peppy!
It certainly looks like a lot of fun for small change!
