1973 Triumph 1500 Saloon

Charming older restoration with some recent works; last owner of 29 years; eminently usable and enjoyable affordable classic

Dating from May 1973 this tidy precursor to the more familiar (in name perhaps only) Dolomite is finished in a desriable hue of powder blue with contrasting brown leatherette interior that appears in super order and is powered here by the venerable 1,493cc four-cylinder motor with single SU carb. It drives via the front wheels and a 4-speed manual transmission
and springing is by coils all round, independant at the front and dead-beam axle at the rear. As a facelift car, we see the silver nose badge, uprated carb, slightly higher output than the earlier version (65Bhp Vs 61bhp) and attractive twin headlight design that would be carried over to the Dolomite replacement later in 1973.

The history file for this most usable of affordable family classics includes a heap of invoices, the V5c and Passport to Service showing 3 old stamps dated 1973, 1974 and 1975 at 7,838 miles by G.R Jones, Elm Garage Holyhead.  Invoices on file show recent spend on door and boot seals (£139.36), £225 on parts in April 2017 including clutch plate, clutch bearing, gearbox mount, gear lever bushes, sump set, a set of standard rings and front and rear oil seals, brake hoses in May 2018, points and condensor in June 2018, a halogen light conversion kit in July 2018, pair of reconditioned calipers in October 2019 and recon starter motor in January 2017.  A hand written schedule suggests the car has had a head gasket replacement in January 2017, but this is hand written only and includes other parts.

Further to the invoices and obvious spend detailed above, we also find the V5c, owner's manual and fresh MOT (despite obviously being MOT and tax exempt) valid until January 2022 with no advisories recorded - surely a good omen when buying a car of this era. Very usable and practical, one you can convince the wife, or husband has merits for all the family to enjoy (or endure!) at this summer's show scene!
