1993 Mercedes-Benz SL320

Only 59,600 miles with 17 services to date; current lady owner 10 years; smooth and potent 228bhp twin cam 24-valve 3.2 straight-six; electric hood; a nice example all round

Built at a time when Mercedes still had a reputation for making cars which made granite feel flimsy, the R129 Series SL was launched in 1989 and remained in production until 2001. Brimful of cutting-edge technology and powered by a variety of six- and eight-cylinder engines, it was the sportscar of choice for many contemporary F1 drivers and only seems to get better looking with age.
This SL320 has the silky 228bhp twin cam 24-valve 3.2-litre straight-six engine that was introduced to the range in 1993. Mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox it could launch the car to 60mph in around 8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 147mph. In fact the SL320 is rated the ‘Best Buy’ of the R129 range by What Car? magazine for its blend of performance, economy and ease of maintenance.
Supplied new by Sunningdale Mercedes of Berkshire in November 1993, this SL320 has covered only 59,600 miles to date with a good service history comprising 16 stamps in the book up to 50,251 miles in March 2009 plus a stamp for a further oil service by Gerry Doverman in July 2010 at c.51,500 miles. This gives an average service interval of just 3,500 miles.
The current lady owner acquired the car in July 2011 from a local airline Captain who had owned it for the previous eight years and had it regularly serviced by Steels of Hereford, including a new radiator at 48,387 miles. During her 10-year ownership the car has always been kept garaged and has been very lightly used, covering only 6,000 miles and being barely driven at all for the last few years, hence the reason for sale.

The electric soft top functions as it should and although the black canvas hood is in very good condition, all three plastic windows have split with age and will need replacing.
Starting promptly and running nicely as we have moved it around on site, it has an MOT until January 2022 with no advisories recorded.
