1997 Fiat Cinquecento Sporting

Diminutive Modern Classic, here in 53bhp Sporting form; showing just 64,009 miles and in super order throughout

Supplied new in October 1997, this late model Sporting was the zestier offering of the Cinquecento range and features the 1.1 SOHC 'Fire' engine also found in the Punto, which here, kicks out a dizzying 53bhp, driving the front wheels through a 5-speed close ratio gearbox on lower suspension, front anti-roll bar and cool 13inch alloy wheels. Inside, the addition of a tachometer, grippier sports seats and red seat belts complete the sportier atmosphere.  53bhp may make you scoff into your cornflakes, but, its diminutive size and low weight gives it ample and enjoyable performance darting through the traffic with aplomb, able to slot into tight spaces with pizazz accompanied by a rorty engine note.

Finished in classic yellow, this little gem has covered just 64,009 miles in the hands of its 5 owners, the current a local, mature enthusiast and collector has enjoyed its smile per mile fun factor enourmously.  Recently treated to a 4 wheel refurbishment at a cost of £288 the car looks well with gleaming paint and tidy interior complimented by the addition of a set of Abarth mats.

In addition, within the history file we see the car was treated to a new radiator, thermostat and service by Italian car spares of Poole in July 2014 at a cost of £372 at 60,069 miles, a replacement clutch in May 2010 at 53,105 miles, timing belt service including water pump and wheel bearing in September 2007 at 45,997 miles at a cost of £259.  The file of invoices dates back to the early 00's and shows impressive regular maintenance.  We also find 13 old MOTs, the owner's manual, V5C and 3 keys including master key.  The current MOT is valid until May 2021 with one advisory recorded for a deteriorated CV joint boot (this has since been rectified).

Populised by the hilarious comedy 'The Inbetweeners' the 90's Fiat Cinquecento has seen somewhat of a rennaisance in recent years given the huge success of the recent/current 500 sibling which you see everyday these diminutive and square hatchbacks are worth a look see for cheap and cheerful motoring that bring a bit of glee to the world in Sporting form.
