2001 Peugeot 406 Coupe
Striking Pininfarina
designed coupe with seating for 4, here in rarer 2.2 turbodiesel form wearing
attractive 18" Bola B1 alloy wheels
Launched in the late 90's these
striking coupes still turn heads and given only 107,633 of them were built they
were a rare sight then, and even more so today. Designed and built by
Italian design legends Pininfarina (bet you didnt know that) the lines are
almost Ferrari-esque with recessed rear screen within the swept buttresses, low,
sleek and aerodynamic nose and perhaps more familiar 406 saloon-like rear end.
The car offered seating for four and a usable boot with Italian style and looks.
More commonly seen with either the powerful 3.0 V6 petrol or 2,0 petrol
we find here the comparatively rarer 2.2 HDI turbo-diesel powerplant delivering
131bhp and an impressive 232lb ft of torque (314NM) fitted between 2001-2003
only.
Dating from September 2001 and looking mightily impressive finished
in red, sitting on a set of simply gorgeous 5-spoke 18inch Bola B1
5-spoke alloy wheels, our vendor has opted to give the car a more up to
date look, colour coding the wheels to the wing mirror cowlings and enhancing
the stance by lowering the car 40mm all-round on a set of Direnza
performance springs (the originals are boxed, in the boot) - the result is what
you see pictured, and we think it looks the bees-knees.
Inside, its
business as usual with grey cloth trim, digital climate control, 5-speed manual
transmission and electric windows amongst the usual array of creature
comforts. Its a nice place to be, with comfort and space a plenty for 4
adults if needs be.
The car has covered 110,799 which is a walk in the
park for Peugeot's legendary diesel engines, known to quite literally 'go
forever', the history file including a few invoices showing the car was recently
treated to new discs, pads, front ARB drop links and bushes in October
2020, with new clutch and battery also fitted earlier in August 2020 at a
cost of £350 by the Clutch Clinic, Gloucester less than 200 miles ago. We also
find the V5C showing 6 previous owners, owner's manual, 2 old MOTs and current
valid until October 2021 with no advisories recorded.
A nice, rare coupe
with some subtle modern touch upgrades offering style with economy (55mpg we
hear!) from its torquey diesel engine - definitely a Modern Classic.
