1971 Winnebago D22 Indian

Imported from California in 2020; unmolested and in lovely order with nice patina; petrol V8 automatic; 22ft 6-berth 

Dating from March 1971 this charismatic Winnebago D22 Indian American motorhome is of modest proportions. It is c.22ft in overall length and features the usual aluminium rib-sided body in the classic Winnebago shape and style synonymous with so many American movies, series and vacation memories...

Powered by a thumping 6.7-litre Chrysler V8 petrol engine mated to 3-speed automatic transmission, it makes light work of hauling its bulk around and is surprisingly easy to manoeuvre with its essential power steering!

Presenting well, in what looks like an unmolested and original condition for its 50 years, it has recently been imported from warm, dry California where its believed to have come from long term 35 year ownership. It has been built to a high specification, including all the additional extras available at the time such as electric start generator for AC power, 12 volt leisure battery, gas hot water boiler and blown air central heating, hob oven with extractor, fridge/freezer, fresh and waste water tanks, flushing toilet, shower, kitchen and bathroom sinks etc etc.

The D22 can sleep up to 6 in multiple configurations. Up front we find the lovely original tape deck and speakers which we understand work as they should, a dashtop mounted reversing camera screen, divider curtains and original captains chairs. Below and outside, we find space for 2 large gas bottles and a luggage cradle on the rear of the roof area (which we are told does not leak, like many do), and large pull-out awning.

Within the history file, we find the V5C confirming UK registration in March 2020, original books and instruction manuals for various aspects of the vehicle and its systems along with other sundry paperwork including a recent bill for a shift shaft seal.

Driven 250miles by our vendor recently and subsequently to us for the sale, its ready to be enjoyed with a fresh battery just fitted. This impressive D22 Indian can be readily handled thanks to its compact proportions (for an American RV) and could be ideal to tow a classic race car or simply enjoy a great UK-Covid-Staycation!?
