2011 Abarth 500 T-jet

Punchy Italian with 160bhp turbocharged power; lots of fun and lots of go with cutesy yet subtly aggresive styling

Supplied new in June 2011 by Vospers Marsh Abarth/Fiat this funky little Italian hot-hatch is finished in white with lovely 8-spoke 16inch Abarth alloy wheels with contrasting red Abarth graphics, red wing mirrors and red Abarth Scorpion logo on the bonnet. In addition, we see the addition of a tinted bonnet spoiler by Scout, black coated lower front valance and rear diffuser to give added purpose and a fruity Magnetti Marelli Bombardone SS500R2 Sports exhaust which gives a lovely rorty note and burble.

Inside, we find Sporty well bolstered seats finished in black cloth with red accents and white dash strip featuring the main binnacle, separate (but standard) Abarth spec boost gauge and shift light, Radio/CD with Mp3 mated to Interscope factory optional upgrade sound system, digital climate control with AC, Sport mode, Traction control, electric windows, mirrors and front fog lights. Furthermore, we see an on-board trip computer revealing an average of 43mpg and Xenon headlights, an expensive factory optional extra.

Originally a 135 T-Jet model, the last owner opted to give the car a bit more poke, with the commonly found re-map upping power from 135 to 160bhp with similar increase in torque – similar to the other model available in the range at the time (various states of tune were available) with some people (as seen online) extracting 200bhp from this amazing 1.4 litre turbocharged engine!

In addition, under the bonnet we see some gold heat-wrap on the hard pipe induction system with high flow conical air filter and MTC intake pipe for improved breathing, air flow and performance. As a result, the car performs very well with strong and rather surprising performance available with the proven Abarth dynamics the car can be a lot of fun while still returning super economy and lower running costs than you might imagine.

Within the history file, we find the V5C showing 5 former keepers, owner’s pack and service book revealing 7 stamps plus one hand-written entry. The last service, in April 2021 included fitment of a new timing belt, auxiliary belt and service with the correct Selenia Abarth oil at 81,260 miles, the car now showing 82,797.

Furthermore, we find invoices for parts and service, recent 4-wheel alignment, Dyno print-out showing 160.9bhp and 273NM of torque and stage-1 re-map by Indigo-GT of South Wales in June 2019 at 70,030 miles, purchase of the sports exhaust in June 2019, purchase receipt from 2019 and service from March 2019 including new pads, pads and wheel bearing at a cost of £504 and 6 old MOTs in addition to the current, valid until April 2022 with just 1 minor advisory recorded for slight play in front ball joint.

With 2-keys, a long MOT, fruity bark,  recent timing belt service and 160.9bhp on tap this Italian pocket rocket is ready to be enjoyed and looks like a whole lot of performance and fun for little money.
