1987 Jaguar XJS 3.6
Low mileage example driven
some 100 miles to the sale; very sound car with fortunes spent in the right
places; lots of history; a few light cosmetics to complete; nice number; great
potential to make a fine example
Up until the Millenium,
this 1988 3.6-litre XJS was leading a normal life. It was being used on a
regular basis and being taken for service every year (apart from 1994 and 1997)
until October 2000, by which time it had covered 66,418 miles. For whatever
reason, the car was then put into storage.
It had changed hands a few
times, the V5C showing six former keepers, the vendor purchasing it from a gent
earlier this year who had gone to town recommissioning the car, witnessed by the
huge file of bills and the condition of the car itself.
Its most
impressive aspect is the underside, in particular the rear subframe which was
removed and completely reconditioned. This included new springs and shocks, rear
radius arms, brakes - the lot, the intention being to restore this low mileage
car back to pristine condition.
Sadly, a sudden loss of storage prompted
its sale to our vendor, who completed a myriad of small jobs and finalised
the recommissioning work. He too has encountered storage issues and is
reluctantly offering this lovely Jaguar in the sale. His loss is your
gain.
Driven over 100 faultless miles to us (on a very hot day), he
reports that it drives really nicely and even the air conditioning worked. The
condition of the interior is testament to its low mileage, with just some wear
to the piping on the seat bolster and the paintwork on the lower portion of the
body (plus a few blemishes up top) would benefit from attention - work which
would complete the transformation from slumbering princess to show
contender.
It comes with lots of bills, handbook and service book with 12
stamps and V5Cs showing its ownership history - the last two owners undertaking
a proper recommissioning after 20 years off the road in quality storage. It also
carries a no advisory MOT until August 2022.
