2003 Mercedes-Benz SL500 (R230)
A very sharp
low mileage example featuring desirable panoramic roof; heated and cooled
seats; AMG bodykit; driven over 150 miles to the sale
“Forget
Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche. The most desirable car
you can buy is the new Mercedes 500SL.
Wherever
you happen to be, no other car impresses most of the people most of the time.
It's the one car the world over that says you've arrived before you even start
your journey. So what’s it like to drive? Fantastic, obviously. A five-litre V8.
Three hundred and six brake horsepower. A silky but overrideable five-speed
automatic transmission. And probably more technology than a Space
Shuttle".
Introduced
in 2002, the R230 version of the SL500 certainly impressed the road testers on
the Honest John website. The best-looking SL since the legendary Gullwing of the
1950s, great to drive and costing over £70,000 new, it is a sure-fire classic of
the future.
First
registered in September 2003, this impressive SL500 has carried a few private
numbers throughout its life and has had six owners, the last since November
2018.
They have
all been diligent as far as servicing goes, with 11 service stamps spread evenly
over the period. It confirms the indicated mileage of 82,671 miles, its most
recent service being carried out in January this year at 79,599 miles. Bills on
file for various services link its history along with 12 old
MOTs.
The car
stands for itself, looking resplendent in Brilliant Silver with Anthracite
leather upholstery. It comes with a fully working electric Panoramic
glass-roofed hardtop, AMG bodykit and polished staggered fitment alloy
wheels with premium tyres.
The option
codes indicate that it has Parktronic, Comand, front seat climate control,
active body control and a premium sound system with CD
player.
Driven
some 150 miles to the sale, it is very reluctantly being offered due to a change
in direction and too many cars. A smart example in ready to use condition, it
looks like an extraordinary amount of car for a very reasonable
sum.
