1968 Land Rover Series IIA
Galvanised
chassis; Ford 3.0-Litre conversion; lots of useful extras; a very smart Land
Rover
We don't know when this 1968 88" Series II was given the full
treatment, but it has certainly been built up from scratch on a new galvanised
chassis, replacement bulkead and uprated with a Ford V6...of three litres
we believe.
Mated to its original transmission, it has a stainless
exhaust and parabolic springs with uprated shock absorbers which make
a world of difference to the ride quality.
The bodywork has been
professionally repainted Grasmere green and looks nice and straight,
with very few battle scars. Whoever did the work made a very nice job of it,
including fitting a substantial steering guard and two front tow
eyes.
Little extras abound, such as the sunshade, LED lighting set,
side-opening tailgate and note by fuel filler which states it uses 'Rocket
Fuel' - perhaps easier to come by than E5 these days.
The interior is
well-ordered with three Exmoor front seats and good side-facing rear seats
with belts for the kids. It has a recent tilt which is in excellent
condition. The doors have been replaced and have Rocky Mountain tops
too.
It is finished off with some tasteful cosmetic
additions, be they the wheels/tyres, the steering guard or the Dukes Of Hazzard
General Lee horn that always gets attention when sounded! The vendor says
that the vehicle always puts a smile on the driver's face and never fails
to get a wave from fellow Landy enthusiasts and garners attention from those 'in
the know' when in the supermarket car park.
