1971 Jensen Interceptor III
Straightforward restoration project; was running and driving recently
As shown by copies of the factory build sheets, this Jensen Interceptor III was built in October 1971 with the 6,276cc engine and was finished in Cerise with a black vinyl roof and a black interior. It was first registered in December 1971 with the number KDJ 547K and was supplied new via Wilmslow Motors Ltd to first owner Mr Norman Lennon of Lennon’s Supermarket, Corporation Street, St Helens, Lancashire.
He did not keep the car long and it was soon up for sale at Charles Follett of London, being acquired from them by Mr AR Taylor, Managing Director of Stage One Display of London N18 in July 1972. He put his own number plate on the car, 45 ART, and clearly had a fair bit of trouble with it as it kept going back to Follett’s to have various faults rectified – perhaps the reason why Mr Lennon sold it!
The main problem concerned poor running which was only rectified when Jensen eventually supplied a new Carter carburettor under warranty in December 1973. Taylor also had air conditioning fitted to the car.
The car then had four further keepers before moving to Longford, Northern Ireland, in 2005 where it was to remain for the next 13 years with the registration number ZV 3045. Invoices show that various new parts were fitted in 2005 including front and rear shock absorbers; reconditioned brake calipers, brake servo and brake master cylinder; new brake pads; suspension bushes; ignition parts; hoses; gaskets etc.
It seems that the car was then put into storage where it remained until our vendor acquired it in April 2018 and bought it back to England where it was registered with the current plate, LYY 529K, which it had worn prior to moving to Ireland. As you can see in the photos, the car does need some work, but we are told that it has been running and driving on private land fairly recently, the majority of the electrics also working as they should. A short video of the engine running can be emailed to potential bidders on request.
The chrome windscreen section for the passenger side is present in the boot, along with the rear parcel shelf in GRP which will need re-covering in black vinyl and the rear boot lock assembly which requires a new release cable (the tailgate does not currently lock). Two sets of keys are also present, along with a factory workshop manual.
On offer here as a straightforward restoration project, it should amply reward the remedial works now required at the modest guide price suggested.
