1963 Morris 1000 Traveller
Dry stored for some
years; for light re-commissioning; offered for sale due to ill health; thought
to have been with our vendor since new
This
traveller was first registered in August 1963, and we understand our vendor
has owned it since then. Due to ill health, the car is being offered for sale
via his solicitors and unfortunately at the time of writing, no paperwork has
been found. It is only showing 40,700 miles, which may well be correct, but can
not be guaranteed due to the lack of recorded history.
We can see
online though that there has been no change of registered keeper since 1963
and understand that the car was regularly used up until 2017, which was when it
last passed an MOT.
A Series 5 model, it has
the slightly more powerful 1,098cc engine but also identifies as the deluxe
variant and therefore inside the almond green body are the original duo-tone
green and white seats.
Overall, the car shows
some signs of age, although we understand it has been stored inside most of its
life and the vulnerable woodwork looks pretty sound. The underside appears
to have been waxoyled too. The bulkhead, the dash, the parcel shelf, the front
seats, the flooring all appear to be largely unaffected by age and look very
presentable. The only real damage is to one of the rear wings which looks like
it might have had a disagreement with a garage door, but this could be restored
without too much difficulty.
The owner has not
driven 284 YKL for a few years, so although we have had it running briefly
while in our care, it will need some attention to the clutch, which currently
does not release (possibly the reason for the damaged wing) and certainly a
new battery etc…
This is a very honest little
traveller, which will need some light re-commissioning, but would be a perfectly
useable and enjoyable little motor car following a good once over.
