1992 Peugeot 205 GTi
Most unusual 205 GTi 1.9
with automatic transmission and A/C; built for export to Japan, but never left
the UK; for light re-commissioning following 10 years in
storage
Dating from September 1992 this unusual
Peugeot 205 GTi was supplied new by Warwick Wright Motors of Dunstable to its
first owner, Peugeot Talbot Motor Co.
Its
believed this unusual Phase II example, is one of the 33 1.9 GTi cars built for
export (of the planned 200) to the Japanese market which were all automatic,
with cloth GTi interior and pepper-pot alloys (like the 1.6 GTi), power
steering, air conditioning raised bonnet and here to, a sunroof. As a result of
trade negotiations breaking down at the time, none look to have been sent to
Japan and those cars built for export were sold back through the domestic dealer
network.
This dark grey example has been in
storage for the last 10 years and was running prior to delivery to us although
the vendor informs us he believes the starter motor has failed and thus the car
will not start presently.
Under the bonnet,
the 1905cc XU5 engine looks to be in stock albeit de-tuned form without any
obvious modification and Jetronic fuel system. The Vin No. suggests the car was
built also in 1991 and confirms it to be an original 1.9 GTi automatic model for
export (***20CDF4********) developing 103bhp (DFZ engine
tag).
The history file for this car includes
the V5C revealing 13 previous keepers to the current, owner’s pack and service
book with 13 stamps, the last in 2007 by Orange Grove Motor Co. (mileage not
stated) and an array of older sundry parts and maintenance invoices.
We also find seven old MOT certificates dating
from 2004 at 45,570 miles 2011 at 73,154 miles, but a handful less than the
75,313 currently indicated. There
is no current MOT on the car having been in storage, the last MOT expiring in
July 2012 with no advisories as on file here.
Ideal for some gentle re-commissioning this rarer variant of the
iconic 205 GTi looks to offer a different take on this sporting classic and
looks appealing at its enticing estimate.
Buyers please note, the V5C does not state a model, nor do any Mots
bar ‘205’ although we do believe it to be the GTi variant as badged and from
decoding the vin, as mentioned above.
