1967 Triumph TR4A IRS
Four speed manual with
no overdrive ; left hand drive; imported from Illinois, USA in 2017; now UK
registered; cracking order
Originally registered
in 1967 in the USA, this TR4A is obviously still left hand drive and the chassis
numbers identify the spec as New White with a Matador Red
interior.
As with so many vehicles brought over
to the UK from America, there are no details available concerning its early life
but we can see the details of the last American to purchase the car in 2013 from
the paperwork on file. There are bills between 2013 and 2016 that include
replacement of floor and sills, refitting of some of the interior, a new clutch,
fuel and water pumps, seat belts and countless hoses, seals and other miscellany
mounting up to just over a $5,000 in total.
It was imported to the UK from Illinois in 2017 – apparently to a
relation of the owner in the States. Duty was paid and the car became UK
registered but due to commitments was subsequently sold again to our vendor
who has stored it in his garage hoping to enjoy in his retirement. Due to a
rather large bill or two due on his other car ( De Tomaso Pantera GTS) the TR4A
needs to raise some handy funds!
Obviously, a
lot of work as been done on this car during the last decade and although the
bills mentioned above account for some of it, it also appears to have had a new
hood, windscreen, door cards, quality carpets, stainless steel exhaust kit,
front and rear lighting, master cylinders and carb kit.
The spoked 4/72 wheels replaced the steels (included in the
sale) recently, which set it off nicely with the accompanying good looking
original brightwork. A few
electrical jobs could do with sorting (fuel guage, dashboard ignition light etc)
but generally this is a nice example of this classic British sports car.
Driven to us for the auction, it now
shows just under 58,000 miles although this is unsubstantiated by the
paper-trail.
Also included with this lot are two large boxes of spares,
most of which is photographed here - it includes the old wheels with tyres,
gaskets, filters, lighting clusters, belts; wiring and
more.
