1984 Mercedes-Benz 280SL (R107)
Lovely example showing just 95,731 miles from 24 year ownership; recent works by the SLShop with a clean MOT - ready to be enjoyed
Dating from March 1984 this lovely old R107 series 280SL is finished in cream and sits upon its original 14” ‘Mexican hat’ alloy wheels and features a nicely contrasting brown hood with removable colour coded factory hard-top.
Inside, we find tan MB-tex and cloth sports checker seats, walnut trim, heated rear screen (for the hard top), electric windows, manual roof operation, 2 keys for the soft-top/hard top removal/fitment, period Blaupunkt Cambridge SQM39 radio/cassette player and electric passenger mirror.
Under the bonnet, we find the popular and more economic 2.8 litre six-cylinder engine with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection which developed 182bhp driving the rear wheels via four-speed automatic transmission.
The history file for this tidy and appealing example which shows 95,731 miles includes the owner's manual, current V5C revealing seven former keepers to the current of some 24 years, old style V5C, two older style V5’s, selection of bills for parts and maintenance plus seven old MOTs dating back to 1997 at which time the car had covered 82,708 miles and the current MOT valid until January 2023 recording no advisories.
The MOT history shows the car to have been in storage off the road for the last five years, the mileage only increasing by c.600 miles in this time. The invoices on file show the car to have been serviced in late 2020 along with fitment of new exhaust gaskets and manifold bolts and more recent minor remedial works undertaken by marque specialists the SL Shop in January 2022.
Ready to be enjoyed, these R107’s are very usable, quality built cars that are rapidly rising in value and status – bag a good one and it should serve you well in terms of enjoyment, reliability and investment return.
