1972 Volkswagen Beetle 1303
Tidy 1303 example
from long term ownership wearing a set of retro deep-dish wheels with black
vinyl interior
Supplied new by Renwicks VW dealer
of Bristol in January 1973 this tidy white Beetle comes to us in 1303 spec and
sits upon a set of retro-fit deeper dish wheels with polished centre
trim.
Under the rear deck, we find the typical
air-cooled 1,300cc flat-four cylinder engine featuring, as a MY73 car, an
alternator instead of the usual dynamo and also a more modern dry air filter
element gave way to the historic oil bathed unit.
**Bidders please note, we suspect the
engine might actually be a 1584cc unit which the 1303 model had originally, and
that it might have been incorrectly recorded by DVLA.  We also note the
engine may not be original given the number does not seem to match that on the
V5C**
Inside, the windscreen became more
wrap around and the speedo lived in a new, raised pod.  This car boasts black vinyl interior,
Panasonic radio/cassette player and manual windows.  The rear seat base has been recovered as
shown.
The car shows 76,780 miles and presents
well, our vendor having enjoyed the car for summer fun over the last
year.
The history file includes the V5C
recording six former keepers, the owner’s manuals and even the original VW
Diagnosis Punch Card booklet (unmarked) which is rare to find along with the
original service booklet showing seven stamps dating between January 1973 at 8
miles and the last stamp in 1978 at 23,737 miles, although there is one further
hand written entry from April 1980 at 30,733 miles too by
Luccombes.
In addition, we also find 25 old
MOTs, VW owner’s club info, the current MOT, valid until June 2023 recording
just two minor advisories and a selection of historic bills dating back to
1978.
Ready to be enjoyed, this is a cool
example in what looks like lovely order crying out to be enjoyed.
