Huge specification; 22,000 miles from new; supercar performance;
When the original Plus 8 finally ceased production in 2004, it had been in existance for 36 years and only came to an end because of the halt in supply of Rover engines.
Finding a replacement was never going to be easy. The V8 used in the Aero 8 was physically too big and so a Ford V6 engined Roadster was introduced in its place. The traditionalist Morgan buyer thought that the 3.0-litre power unit initially installed wouldn't have the 'beef' required, but the reality was that it was brilliant - smooth and with a massive rev range that could deliver 80mph in second! It has six forward gears!
As the years passed, the Roadster esablished itself in its own right, and to many (your scribe included), was by far the best traditional Morgan built with the possible exception of an early SuperSports Plus 4 or a pre '76 narrow-bodied +8....
By the time this car had been built, the engine had grown to 3,721cc which delivered demonic performance to near motorcycle standards - like driving a car powered by the 'hand of god'...
This 2015 example must have been a very expensive car indeed when it was delivered, as it has a monumental spec. Painted metallic blue, it is trimmed in light cream leather and fitted with a blue Mohair hood. It has a walnut dashboard, stainless wire wheels, bonnet strap, aftermarket mirrors, stainless chassis covers, door check straps, Union Flag badges, door handles, sidescreen bag, Moto Lita steering wheel, map light and a luggage carrier.
It has had three former keepers, the current owner acquiring the car in 2019. He is only selling as he has bought another and thinks two seems a bit greedy.
Its first MOT took place in 2018 at 4,656 miles and the odometer now shows 22,327 miles so it is barely run in. It has an MOT until May 2024. Bidders are advised that at some time, it was involved in an insurance claim and is listed on the register as Category D, although this has been taken into account in the very reasonable estimate.
