Description
An extremely well-built MG-style Oxford with trials
history; on the button; very smart; plenty of go; accessible VSCC
fun
Built with competition in mind, this 1927 Morris Oxford Special
is well-known in VSCC circles, having been put together by Bev Hicks with
coachwork from Keith Hill....
Bev acquired it as a project and set too -
using images of the 14/40 MG and M-Type as inspiration for the bodywork which
was very nicely built by Keith Hill.
Completed by 2003, it was soon put
to use in the VSCC trials scene. When Bev sadly passed away, the car joined
Peter Street's fleet of cars. Peter continued to trial it and enjoy its
considerable performance.
The chassis was restored and converted to sit
on wire wheels. A four-speed box was added, modified with a very nice P-Type
remote change. The 1,800cc engine has an SU carb and has been lightened and
balanced. On driving the car, it immediately becomes apparent that the
performance is strong, and the gearing super with a tall 4:1 rear axle ratio
ensuring it cracks along very nicely.
A most effective car on offer at a
mere fraction of the build cost, its performance is reason enough to own, let
alone the quality of the fit and finish and current overall
condition.
The paperwork on file shows the many of the events it has
done, some nice books on the marque and an original handbook. There are also
plenty of bills and several VSCC Buff forms showing it as an accepted Special,
which were produced at the time of the ownership changes.
