Smart little Clubman restored about 10 years ago with many
performance upgrades
First
registered in July 1974, this Morris Mini Clubman has had just four owners from
new, the third of whom owned it from 2003 to 2020 and appears to have completely
rebuilt the car and carried out many modifications along the way.
A large file of invoices document all the work
done since 2003 and it would take some time to digest all the details. It seems
that the bulk of the work was carried out between 2007 and 2011, much of it
being done by Southam Mini Metro Centre who restored the body with various new
panels and new inner and outer sills. Jonspeed Racing of Nuneaton also got
involved at various stages.
Some of the
features we could identify from the invoices include: Weber 45DCOE carb; Aldon
distributor; Lucas sports coil; 13 row oil cooler; Facet fuel pump; high
capacity water pump; Minispares molybdenum cross pin diff; fast road suspension;
competition clutch; Goodrich brake hoses; Maniflow LCB performance exhaust
system; Group 2 wheelarch extensions; Cobra Monaco Pro seats; Minator alloy
wheels; Yokohama tyres; reconditioned steering rack; heated front windscreen;
Koso RX-2N multifunction speedo/rev counter/fuel gauge/temperature
gauge.
It seems that the gearbox may also have
been rebuilt and no doubt the engine has been souped up too, judging by the look
of it, the V5C recording the capacity as 1,275cc. There are references to the
car being exhibited at shows, while 7 old MOTs imply that it has only covered
around 4,000 miles since 2003, the odometer currently showing 40,199 miles
although this cannot be warranted as there is a mileage discrepancy in 2012
which is perhaps when the fancy speedo was fitted and baffled the MOT tester –
who knows? As the car is over 40 years old it is now MOT-exempt, the last MOT
having expired in December 2013 with no advisories recorded.
Our vendor acquired the car for her son in 2020 but sadly he is no
longer able to afford the cost of the insurance, hence the reason for sale.
Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site, this hot
Mini Clubman appears to be in good shape and will turn heads wherever
it goes.
