Sought after turbocharged 3.3-Litre; only 14,000km on rebuilt engine;
plenty of service history; long MOT; rare opportunity to acquire a most iconic
930 turbo model
Amendment: The car was supplied new to the German
market, not Italian* as originally stated. There are also another 4 service
stamps in a second service book the last at 135,296km in Nov 2001 (see
photos).
Supplied new to the *German market in
December 1988, this 930 Series 911 Turbo is finished in Black (L700) with that
instantly recognisable ‘Tea-Tray’ rear spoiler and sits upon its original 16”
Fuchs wheels shod with recent Pirelli P-Zero tyres.
Under that gorgeous
tail, we find the 3.3-Litre 930/60 air-cooled flat-six turbocharged engine with
air-to-air intercooler which upped power over the 3.0 turbo predecessor from
256Bhp to 296Bhp and a whopping 412NM of tourque (achieved by cooling the
pressurised air charge into the turbo through the new intercooler and increase
in displacement of 300cc). Power is sent to the rear wheels via 4-speed
manual transmission, with little in the way of driver aids – no wonder the 930
Turbo became known as ‘The Widow Maker’ – we think this just makes it more
exciting!
Inside we find eight-way adjustable black leather seats which
look to have aged rather well. The floor carpets are missing in part (but this
does give you a good view of what looks to be a solid floor pan), but that aside
the electrics appear to work including windows, mirrors, sunroof and period
radio/cassette player.
Decoding the options sticker shows the car to have
been specced with heated seats, a stronger battery (when new), a 40% locking
differential - LSD, adjustable lumbar support, headlight levelling system,
velour carpet in the luggage compartment and draped leather seats in addition to
the standard spec.
After time spent in Italy, it looks as though the car
spent time in Poland until coming to the UK in March 1994 since when it’s had
four owners, the third from 1997 - 2023. The odometer currently shows
136,650km (84,910 miles) and the car comes with a current MOT valid until 9th
November 2024 showing four minor advisories for wear/pitting to all
four brake discs.
The documents include the V5C, the original
owner's handbooks including the service book which shows 16 stamps, the last on
5th May 1999 when the mileage was 130,155km, suggesting this 930 has
covered only 6,500km in the last 25 years.
The history file
also includes invoices for an extensive engine rebuild by RSR
Engineering in Surrey dated 17th March 1998 which included: gasket sets, valve
guides, inlet valves, exhaust valves, barrels and pistons, head studs, head
washers, timing chain, cam wheels, jockey wheels, chain rails, turbo charger,
exhaust studs, turbo studs, air slide as well as sundry other items. The
car has covered just 14,000km since the rebuild (8,700 miles).
It would
also appear the car benefited from a new clutch kit, oil hoses and new hardware
at around the same time as the above work.
Running and driving nicely on
site, the engine and chassis numbers match those from the V5.
Clearly in need
of some attention to the paintwork as shown in the photos, this 3.3 litre 930
Turbo still looks most tempting at the guide price suggested and an awful lot of
car for the money, to be enjoyed as is or a perfect platform to turn into a real
jaw dropper.
