On offer from a Special Cotswold Collection; low mileage 6.2 litre V8
S3 saloon from long-term ownership with good history; a lovely example
Dating from
April 1964, this impressive Bentley S3 Saloon is one of several fine cars from a
Special Cotswold Collection. Our vendor acquired the car from an estate sale in
Malvern in October 1991 at which point it was showing just 30,170 miles. He has
added some 19,000 miles over his 33-year ownership, the odometer now showing
49,432 miles.
Although the V5C records just one
former keeper, J E Sandall Ltd (Fruit Growers) of Wisbech, the original owners
were United Wire Works of Edinburgh. They kept the car for five years, JE
Sandall acquiring it via Mann Egerton in April 1967 for £4,650 (invoice on
file).
Our vendor contacted JE Sandall shortly
after he acquired the car and learned that it had mainly been used to carry
corporate clients and was always chauffeur driven during their 24-year
ownership. They also confirmed that the low mileage was correct.
The car
comes with a large file of invoices extending back to 1976 to show regular
upkeep over the years, along with many photographs documenting restoration work.
Bills of note include a lower half restoration
and new gear linkage bushes by Cotswold Classic Car Restorations in 2020 at a
cost of around £13,500. Other bills show a shock absorber overhaul kit along
with a new starter motor, exhaust gaskets and thermostat in 2012; new Optronic
ignition kit in 2011 which cost £2,159; the SU carbs were overhauled at around
the same time. In 2007 it had a major service by Broughtons of Cheltenham which
cost £5,767. You get the picture – it has been
well-looked-after!
Other documents include 27 old
MOTs back to 1985 to chart the gradual accumulation of mileage; owner’s
handbook; wiring diagrams; Mann Egerton warranty sheet; Malvern estate sale
catalogue etc.

Blue with a light blue leather interior, walnut picnic tables and electric
windows all round, the car looks most attractive indeed and has been starting
promptly and running almost silently as we have moved it around on
site.
