Only 31,700 miles with six service stamps; three owners, the current
for 13 years; SL55 AMG bodykit and 18" AMG Turbine alloys; choice options;
superb condition; new advisory-free MOT; lots to love about this
one
“Forget Ferrari,
Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche. The most desirable car you can
buy is the new Mercedes 500SL. Wherever you happen to be, no other car impresses
most of the people most of the time. It's the one car the world over that says
you've arrived before you even start your journey. So what’s it like to drive?
Fantastic, obviously. A five-litre V8. Three hundred and six brake horsepower. A
silky but overrideable five-speed automatic transmission. And probably more
technology than a Space Shuttle."
Introduced in 2002, the R230 version of
the SL500 certainly impressed the road testers on the Honest John website. The
best-looking SL since the legendary Gullwing of the 1950s, great to drive and
costing over £70,000 new, it is a sure-fire classic of the future.
First
registered in October 2002, this impressive SL500 has covered only 31,700 miles
from new with an excellent service history comprising six stamps in the book,
the last in April 2025 at 31,532 miles (see photos). There are also various
supporting invoices and others for new parts fitted, including a new Bosch
battery in April 2024; new PSE pump (Pneumatic System Equipment) and crankshaft sensor in January 2024;
new front and rear brake discs and pads in May 2013 at c.21k miles.
It has had just three owners, the current since
March 2013, and was ordered with over £7k of extras including: Dynamic Massage
Comfort Seats; keyless go; TV tuner; Parktronic; Bose sound system; phone kit;
wood and leather steering wheel; walnut gearshift; tyre pressure monitor;
Linguatronic and prep for roof carry system.
Someone has also added an SL55 AMG bodykit with boot badges, V8
Kompressor side badges and 18” AMG Turbine alloys. Not that you really need to
fool people – this SL500 is plenty quick enough for any sane mortal and takes
off like a scalded cat, as you can see in the video…
Always kept garaged in the current 13-year ownership and lightly used
on high days and holidays only, it appears to be in fantastic condition and you
will struggle to fault it. It has an MOT until January 2027 with no advisories
recorded and, given that it is barely even run-in yet, it looks hugely tempting
at the sensible guide price suggested.
