Description

A very special Chummy with many period and later upgrades to enhance performance and durability; keep up with modern traffic during the week and go trialling at the weekends

This wonderfully sporty and highly developed Austin Seven Chummy Tourer was first registered in October 1931 and presents in attractive blue coachwork. Showing just six former keepers and in the current ownership since February 2018, this early-style Chummy is correctly registered as a 1931 vehicle due to the fitment of a later, stronger 1931 chassis, combining vintage character with improved durability.

This is no ordinary Austin Seven. Carefully upgraded for spirited motoring, reliability, and modern road usability, it features an impressive specification that will appeal to both enthusiasts and trials drivers alike. The engine has been extensively enhanced with a Phoenix crankshaft, modern slipper pistons, dynamic balancing, a high-compression alloy head, free-flow exhaust manifold, 1 1/8” SU carburettor, modern distributor and a sought-after Pigsty trials camshaft with double valve springs. Further improvements include a full-flow external oil filter and oil catch tank, ensuring both performance and longevity.

Power is delivered through an ultra-close-ratio 4-speed gearbox with Super Accessories ratios and 3-synchromesh, complemented by a full Hardy Spicer propshaft and 5.25:1 differential. Hydraulic brakes, boxed radius arms, rebuilt 19” wheels with like-new Longstone tyres, and a complete rewire of the 6-volt electrical system with LED lighting and indicators make this Austin exceptionally capable and confidence-inspiring on today’s roads.

Inside and out, the car retains its charming early character, complete with an early-style hood and nearly new side screens, while practical additions such as oil and water temperature gauges enhance usability. Regularly maintained, including a recent oil and filter service in April 2026, this Chummy starts instantly 'on the button', stops and drives, with the ability to comfortably achieve 50mph in third gear when required.

Supplied with a hydraulic bottle jack, wheel nut hand brace, copy of the build manual, photographs, and invoices, this is a comprehensively sorted example that has been starting, stopping, and driving well on site for photography.

Equally suited to enjoyable modern road use or taken off-road for vintage trials, this outstanding Austin Seven offers an exciting opportunity to acquire a well-prepared, versatile, and characterful example of one of Britain’s most beloved pre-war sporting cars.
