Running and driving Traveller, presented in the rare Bedouin
paintwork; new woodwork fitted in 2008; purchased by current registered keeper
in 1983 when it showed only 22,000 miles; now just over 143,000 miles
showing
A well-presented and highly usable example
of the much-loved Morris Minor Traveller, finished in the particularly rare
late-production colour of Bedouin. Manufactured at BMC's Adderley Road,
Birmingham works in late 1971, by which time Traveller production had
transferred from Cowley, this example has enjoyed remarkably long-term
ownership, having been acquired by the current registered keeper in 1983 and
retained for over 40 years.
The car was purchased
from the son of its original owner, Mr M.A. Dowse of Suffolk, whose name appears
in the original service book, initially stamped by Henlys Ltd of Ipswich. An
extensive history file accompanies the car, documenting many years of
maintenance and improvement.
Structural work was
undertaken by Charles Ware in 1989, including replacement of the centre section
and sills, while other work over the years has included new wings and rear
valance, clutch, front suspension and extensive rust prevention. The distinctive
ash woodwork was replaced, with photographs on file recording the work in 2008.
The engine bay received further attention in 2022, including cleaning and
replacement of hoses.
Although now showing just
over 143,000 miles, the history demonstrates that this Traveller has been
exceptionally well maintained throughout its long ownership. The majority of the
work is supported by a substantial collection of invoices and
receipts.
Today the car presents well in its
attractive Bedouin finish, complemented by the smart woodwork and chrome. It has
been run and driven on site by ourselves and performed without any obvious
issues.
A genuine long-term enthusiast-owned
Traveller with an unusually well-documented history, rare late-production colour
and considerable expenditure invested over more than four decades. A cracking
little Moggie and an excellent example of the increasingly collectible Morris
Minor Traveller.
