The BMW E39 M5 is widely regarded as one of the greatest performance
saloons of its generation, combining the understated styling of the E39 with a
high-revving V8, rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox. Today, genuine
examples are firmly established as modern classics.
This 2000 BMW M5 is finished in desirable Avus Blue Metallic with a
Black and Grey M-Tech leather interior. Powered by the 4,941cc V8 engine and
six-speed manual transmission, it was first registered in June 2000 and has had
10 former keepers.
The car currently displays
200,275 miles and, while it remains running and driving, it would benefit
considerably from some mechanical recommissioning before being returned to
regular use.
During photography, a degree of
corrosion was noted underneath and around the sills which may not have been
noticed when the recent MOT was carried out. Some dashboard warning lights were
also illuminated, although these may have appeared subsequently. Prospective
bidders are strongly advised to study the photographs carefully or come and view
in person to satisfy themselves as to the condition before
bidding.
The interior appears complete and,
considering the age and mileage, presents reasonably well. The exterior,
however, will require attention in the near future, making this an ideal project
for an enthusiast looking for a genuine E39 M5 to restore and
improve.
For the ambitious enthusiast, it could
also provide the basis for something rather special – a BMW E39 M5 Touring, the
high-performance estate that BMW famously never produced. A genuine M5 with
considerable potential and an opportunity to create something truly
unique.
