Rice Cosby trailer; believed to have seen
service with the Thames Conservancy River Purification department; maximum gross
weight of 720kg; cable-operated braking system; sturdy steel frame and wooden
body
Finished in dark green, this useful trailer is understood to
have been manufactured by Rice Cosby of Leicestershire and is believed to have
seen service with the Thames Conservancy River Purification department, as
suggested by the surviving 'RP2' markings still visible on the
bodywork.
Constructed with a sturdy steel frame and
wooden body, the trailer has a quoted maximum gross weight of 720kg and offers a
practical load area measuring approximately 1,875mm in length, 975mm in width
and with side panels 450mm high.
The trailer retains its cable-operated braking
system, adding to its period character and suggesting it was intended for
regular road-going duties during its working life.
Displaying the sort of honest wear
and patina that enthusiasts appreciate, it remains a highly useable piece of
period utility equipment and would make an ideal companion for a classic
vehicle, agricultural vehicle or stationary engine
collection.
A
charming and increasingly uncommon survivor, this Rice Cosby trailer provides an
interesting glimpse into the everyday working equipment.
An honest and attractive Rice Cosby
trailer believed to have been used by Thames Conservancy River Purification
services, retaining period markings, cable-operated brakes and plenty of
original character.
