From a deceased estate; in the current ownership for 12 years; Ford
2.3 V6 engine; approx 24k miles from build; recent service and new clutch kit; a
smart-looking kit car with classic looks and modern performance
Founded in the
1980s by three former British Leyland engineers – Kenneth Jones, John Barlow and
Jim Arnold, hence the name – JBA Engineering of Wigan designed the Falcon kit
car to offer classic 1930s sports car looks with modern
mechanicals.
Developed from the original
two-seater Falcon Sports, the Plus 2 gained a longer wheelbase, wider doors, and
a small rear bench seat capable of accommodating children, luggage or pets.
Unlike its predecessor, it also featured a functional rear boot for improved
usability.
The body featured a combination of
handcrafted aluminium body panels with fibreglass wings and scuttle section.
Underneath it had a robust tubular steel box-section chassis paired with a
structural body frame.
It
typically used Cortina Mk3 or Mk4 running gear, front and rear suspension,
steering, and braking systems. The engine choice varied depending on the
builder's preference, ranging from Ford Pinto engines to Ford V6 and Rover V8
units.
The kit for this particular car was
collected from JBA by the first owner, a Mr A Howe of Brackley, in December 1989
but it seems that he didn’t actually finish building the car until March 2000
which is when it passed the SVA test (Single Vehicle Approval), being registered as GVV 638X in April
2000.
Fitted with a Ford 2.3 V6 engine, it then
had three more owners before being acquired by the current keeper in February
2014, the invoice showing that it cost him £5,750.
The speedo was
showing 4,004 miles at this point and it now shows 10,567 miles. The MOT history
indicates that it had a speedo change in 2009 when it was showing just under 13k
miles so the true mileage isn’t known but seems likely to be around 23,500
miles.
On offer here from a deceased estate, it
has a good file of invoices for regular upkeep since 2011. Expenditure of note
includes:
May 2011 – four new tyres at 3,926
miles
April 2013 – lots of fairly minor jobs to
address MOT issues by Liftondown Garage of Devon
Feb 2014 – new front spot lamps
May
2015 – service at 4,888 miles by Tom Pettitt of East Sussex
April 2021 – service at 8,484 miles by Tom Pettitt
June 2023 – new Cortina Mk4 heater
matrix
June 2025 – new water pump and thermostat
kit fitted by Tom Pettitt
July 2026 – new Ford
Capri V6 Borg & Beck clutch kit in July 2026
Sept 2026 – new air filter, oil filter, engine oil and six new spark
plugs at 10,567 miles
Other documentation
includes the current V5C; two older V5Cs showing previous owners; SVA approval
certificate; DVLA correspondence; JBA correspondence, invoices and kit
information. It has an MOT until August 2027 plus 14 old
MOTs.
As you can see in the photos, this
seemingly low mileage Falcon Plus 2 looks to be in good shape for its year and
has been starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site.
