Driven over 20 miles to
our site; extensive work carried out in current owners 27 years of ownership;
galvanised chassis; . A replacement gearbox and transfer box have been
fitted
First registered in June 1970,
this 88-inch Land Rover is a particularly well-maintained and extensively
refurbished example, powered by the four-cylinder engine and retaining the
unmistakable character of the classic short-wheelbase Land
Rover.
The vehicle has had nine
former keepers and has been in the current vendor's ownership since November
1999, with the V5C changed into the vendor's name in July 2002. The history
records 37,179 miles in July 1996, supported by a Prees Heath auction sale
invoice, before the Land Rover was taken off the road for renovation between
November 1999 and September 2002. It subsequently recorded 37,183 miles at its
September 2002 MOT.
The Land Rover has seen very
little use since 2006, although it has been kept insured and taxed. It is now
MOT exempt and currently shows 38,923 miles on the speedometer, although this
figure cannot be verified.
During the current ownership,
considerable work has been carried out, including the fitting of a galvanised
chassis, replacement footwells and repairs to the bulkhead. Further mechanical
work includes a replacement radiator, clutch, water pump, exhaust, fuel tank,
brake lines and hoses, with the brakes overhauled on two occasions. A
replacement gearbox and transfer box have also been fitted, although the receipt
for this work has unfortunately been lost.
Other work includes
replacement front doors and door tops, a high-torque starter motor, front
propshaft, rear springs, front wings and various wheel bearings, seals, dampers
and other consumable items. The bodywork has also been refreshed in the
traditional combination of Limestone over Bronze
Green.
The Land Rover was driven over
20 miles to our site and, while with us for photography and a short video,
started, drove and stopped as expected.
With its galvanised chassis,
extensive mechanical refurbishment and long-term ownership, this 88-inch Land
Rover offers a very usable example of the classic utility 4x4. Having covered
very little mileage in recent years, it would make an appealing addition to a
Land Rover collection while remaining ready for further use and
enjoyment.
