1960 Armstrong Siddeley
Star Sapphire automatic; currently showing just 84,359 miles; recently driven to
Goodwood and back without issue; very original and usable
car
A fine example of Armstrong
Siddeley’s flagship saloon, the Star Sapphire combined traditional British
craftsmanship with effortless performance and luxurious refinement. This
right-hand-drive example is finished in black and powered by the 3,990cc
six-cylinder petrol engine, paired with a three-speed automatic
transmission.
First registered in January
1960, the car bears registration number 2591 FH and currently displays 84,359
miles. Described as a very original and well-cared-for example, it has recently
been recommissioned following probate of a deceased estate. The vendor
subsequently purchased the car and drove it to and from the Goodwood Revival
without difficulty.
Recent maintenance includes an
engine oil and filter change, automatic gearbox oil checked and reported clean,
rear axle oil change, and lubrication of the grease points. The vendor reports
that the automatic transmission changes smoothly and that the servo-assisted
brakes are excellent. An electric windscreen washer conversion has been carried
out, while the original vacuum system remains in
place.
The car retains its original
HMV valve radio with separate amplifier. The interior woodwork and leather
upholstery are described as being in good condition, while the exterior and
underside are reported to be solid, with no underside rust noted by the vendor.
The tyres have very good tread, and a brand-new spare wheel and tyre are
included.
The Star Sapphire has an
advisory-free MOT valid until November 2026. It presents as an honest, largely
original car with a few age-related marks that do little to detract from its
imposing overall appearance.
Having been driven over 50
miles to the sale, the car was starting, driving and stopping as expected while
on site for photography and a short video.
An appealing opportunity to
acquire a substantial and increasingly distinctive British luxury saloon,
benefiting from recent recommissioning and a successful long-distance
journey.
