1992 Saab 900 16v Turbo Convertible
With scope
to use and improve; classic Scandi lines, huge history; black leather, manual
box and a 2.0 LPT turbo engine
Supplied new by Saab
Manchester in April 1992 this cool old Swede features the 2.0-litre 16v LPT
(light pressure turbo) lump driving the front wheels through 5-speed manual
transmission.
Finished in red with contrasting blacl leather the car
oozes a discreet 90's cool-factor, think polo neck, loafers and neat thin rimmed
spectacles when new.  The hood, originally electric in operation is now
operated manually with relative ease (although this may be repairable) the
bodywork is tidy enough with marks commensurate with its age and mileage of
152,000 as with the comfy black leather seats with simple, functional easy
to use dash and instromentation suiting our ex-aviation industry vendor to a
T.
Within the considerable history file, we find the V5C showing six
previous owners to the current, an old style V5, original blue vinyl Saab
owner's pack with owner's manuals and service book showing an impressive 13
service stamps, the last stamp in September 2002 at 100,185 miles by Saab
Manchester and one additional stamp for the anti-corrosion warranty in July 1993
also by Saab Manchester.
Furthermore, within the folder we find
the original PDI confirmation and a considerable ream of service invoices dating
back to 1994, purchase receipt (dated May 2006 at 117,500 miles for £4575),
clutch kit fitment in June 2007 at a cost of £381, replacement turbo and other
associated works in July 2011 by Tettenhall Saab, Cobra alarm installation
with certificate in March 2006 (since removed by our vendor), new head gasket in
September 2010 and more recently a new clutch master cylinder in 2017, four
tyres in July 2018 and service kit in November 2018. Our vendor notes he
serviced the car himself in January 2021.  Furthermore, we find 17 old MOTs
dating back to 1995 and current MOT without advisory valid until January
2022.
Ready to be used with scope for some improvement, these 900 turbos
offer smooth performance with an air of alternative sophistication and class
with the added practicality of a usable four seats and boot all for the
price of a good family holiday. Given we dont seem to be allowed to go abroad
this year, buy the Saab and do some road trips instead and you've still got your
original investment unlike a foreign holiday where you come back with a sore
head, sunburn, a random phone number from a good night out and an empty
bank account?
