1963 Daimler Dart SP250
Lovely example from
long term ownership; showing a believed genuine 83,046 miles; hard top
and TR6 wheels
Dating from January 1963 this SP-250 Dart looks
to have had just a few owners, with the first and second believed to be father
and son with the same unusual surname - 'August', father owning it in Cheltenham
for the first 12 years covering c.30,000 miles, followed by son taking
ownership in 1974 it for some 30 years with much of his use on the
continent whilst working in Paris according to copious ownership notes and copy
old V5 on file. Other notes suggest the car was subject to a body-off
restoration in 1991 and was then unused for around 10 years.
Our
vendor has owned the car since March 2005 the Dart enjoying regular use with a
simple log of mileage on file, showing the mileage at 73,980 in March 2004
rising to 82,969 in August 2020, the car currently showing 83,046
miles.
The car presents well, sat on deep dish TR6 wheels giving a more
purposeful look, the bodywork finished in white with replacement black vinyl
hood, blue leather interior with small rear seats and wood veneer dash. A GRP
hard-top is included, purchased by our vendor shortly after he bought the car
for just £200 according to yet another hand written note on file.
In
addition to the detail regarding ownership history, the file also includes the
blue V5C, photos of the car following time in storage when our man took
ownership with the interior looking rather cobweb bound! There are 14
old MOTs the last expiring in April 2019 with just one advisory for an oil
leak, issued at 82,515 miles, Daimler marque history and two files of
invoices with recent spend including £64 in September 2020 on new clutch master
and slave cylinders, a full service with new coil and rotor plus underside
waxoyl in April 2017 costing £341 by a local garage in Malvern who look to
have carried out pre-MOT checks, service and maintenance on the car for a
good number of years.
Further, older bills on file indicate fitment of
a new blue carpet set and other items in April 2005 costing £410, new
Mohair tonneau cover costing £265.09 in May 2008, new windscreen in June 2008,
with a £1,730 spend at Marcus Barclay Independant Jag specialist of Bucks in
April 2005 on repairs to the chassis, repair to fuel tank, overhauled brake
servo, fitment of a battery cut-off switch, replacement choke cable, new hard
top seals, new seat belts and a 2nd hand fuel gauge at 73,974
miles.
A smart and usable Dart in good order with an interesting
history and what looks to be a genuine 83,046 miles with that punchy 250 V8
under the lightweight fibreglass body. What's not to like?
