Description
1960 Daimler Dart SP250
Original UK car; one
German owner from 1990 to 2021; very sound and original with a nice patina;
nice transferable number; on the button and ready to go
As the SP250 Register dating letter confirms, this
Daimler Dart left the factory in May 1960 finished in Ivory with a black
interior and was sold new via Spink’s of Bournemouth. A copy of an old V5 shows
that by the 1980s it had moved to North Shields and in 1990 it was acquired by a
German gentleman, Mr Tietz of Igersheim, who was to keep it for the next 31
years.
A good file of invoices attest to regular upkeep during
Tietz’s ownership but unfortunately our knowledge of German is not up to the
task of translating these, although there are also a few invoices in English for
parts ordered from David Manners in the West Midlands. Suffice it to say that
the German TUV (equivalent to our MOT) is famously strict so the car must have
been maintained in good roadworthy condition during this 31-year period.
Our vendor acquired the car from Mr Tietz in February this
year and brought it back to the UK (with NOVA documents to show that any duties
have been paid) and succeeded in regaining the original Bournemouth-issue
registration number, 6688 EL, which is transferable according to the V5C.
Recently fitted with a new set of HT leads, the car has an
MOT until March 2022 with just two minor advisories for play in the n/s and o/s
upper front suspension bushes. An old MOT from 1989 records the mileage at that
time as 9,212, a total which has since only risen to 14,136 miles.
Starting promptly and running nicely as we have moved it
around on site, with good 40psi oil pressure, it appears to be in largely
original condition throughout with a nice patina and a very sound chassis.
